About

Lab Banner

Thousands of everyday products contain plastic chemicals that can disrupt your hormones, but companies aren't required to tell you which ones or how much. laboratory.love commissions independent, ISO 17025-accredited testing and publishes the results so you can see what's actually in the products you use.

Why? Because in 2023, the EU lowered their "safe" limit for BPA by 20,000x based on new evidence. Most similar chemicals remain poorly studied and regulated. We think consumers deserve to know what's in their products, and companies should feel pressure to eliminate these chemicals from their supply chains.

How testing works:

Order a testing package for the products you want analyzed. We handle sourcing, lab coordination, and reporting.

  1. Pick your products (or let us help scope a kitchen, pantry, or category)
  2. We acquire three samples anonymously through normal retail channels
  3. Light Labs runs GC-MS analysis across phthalate and bisphenol panels
  4. You receive a full report plus raw Certificates of Analysis in 6–8 weeks

Crowdfunded testing (still available):

If you'd rather split the cost with other people who care about a specific product, our original crowdfunded testing list is still running. Existing contributions and funding targets on legacy products are unchanged.

  1. Find (or add) a product you want tested
  2. Contribute toward its testing fund
  3. Get notified when testing completes and results are published
  4. Automatic refund after 365 days if the product doesn't reach its goal

All testing is performed by Light Labs using standardized protocols and published openly. We focus on plasticizers (BPA/BPS) and phthalates — chemicals used to improve plastic performance that can leach into food and disrupt hormone systems.

The same class of testing has driven Consumer Reports investigations that pressured baby-food manufacturers to reduce heavy metals, and helped researchers document widespread BPA contamination in receipts and packaging.

Follow specific products or subscribe to our newsletter for updates as new results go live.

This project was inspired by PlasticList.org's groundbreaking work. While we maintain rigorous testing standards, results are point-in-time measurements and should be considered alongside other factors in making consumer choices.
